Once owned by the luxury cruise line Royal Viking Line, the Fred Olsen Boudicca has lost none of its elegance and classic features. As with the other ships in Fred Olsen’s fleet, Boudicca is styled in an understated, traditionally British way. Alongside this elegance is the quaint feeling of superiority that travellers find and with space for only 880 guests, it is a lot different from the crowded ships of many other cruise lines.
An advantage specific to the smaller size of the Boudicca cruise ship is its ability to cruise closer to the shoreline than many other ships – so get the binoculars out and see sights that few others can see!
With only 462 cabins, Boudicca is a boutique ship – however it comes, like all Fred Olsen ships – with all the comforts of home. This includes an internet centre which allows you to share snaps with your shore-bound friends as well as a medical office and a customer service area for any questions or comments you may have.
The amenities available to guests include the Atlantis Spa and Salon – where you can get yourself a new hairdo or a lush facial, or simply while the days away in a blur of comfort and relaxation with massages, ‘Aromaceane Wraps’ or more pampering facial and full-body treatments.
Alongside the spa is a state-of-the-art fitness centre, complete with treadmills and free weights as well as instructed aerobic and dance lessons, ideal for keeping your fitness regime while at sea.
Boudicca has two swimming pools onboard as well as highly relaxing Jacuzzis, while those looking for a bit more action can try their hand at riding the simulated waves on the Swimex machines. At the end of a busy day sightseeing, swimming or relaxing, a trip to the sauna or steam room is ideal for easing aching muscles and relaxing the mind.
The library onboard has a series of book genres, from novels to biographies as well as audiobooks and board games.

With menus carefully crafted by gourmet-style chefs, dining onboard the Boudicca is certain to tingle your taste buds. The largest of the restaurants is the Four Seasons, while the Tintagel Restaurant offers a more intimate style of dining – with the same tantalizingly tasty food as the main restaurant. Those wishing for a more formal dining experience will enjoy the artistic atmosphere of the Heligan Room.
Alongside the restaurants are a host of bars and cafes including the Secret Garden Café – which offers a less formal, self-service style of eating perfect for those who don’t wish to stick to strict dining times – and the Marquee Bar, which offers al fresco lunches and traditional British meals like fish and chips.
The Grill also offers al fresco lunch and dinner by request. Finally, Boudicca is home to a dedicated chocolate and coffee shop, which offers speciality coffee and tea as well as delicious luxury chocolate.
When we picture a cruise liner then we conjure up the image of the massive ship that holds thousands of passengers and that has everything on board from swimming pools,to cinema’s and driving ranges etc...
Indeed, many of the modern liners are like this however there are an equal number that cater for the more personalised holiday and Fred Olsen Cruises are one of these.
For many people having countless numbers of activities on board as well as being on the same ship as thousands of other people is something that they crave however it is not for everyone and sometimes people go on a cruise holiday in order to relax in serenity and comfort.

One benefit that Fred Olsen Cruises have and something that you do not often get on some of the bigger ships is that you have a much better chance of bonding with fellow passengers especially if the size of the liner itself is quite small.
In fact, what many people have been commenting on is that, with these cruise liners, you actually forge some very strong friendships and that holiday makers often meet up time and time again on a Fred Olsen cruising holiday.
At the end of the day what do you really want from a cruise holiday? Relaxation, a place to meet new people and also the chance to see some sights that you would not normally get the chance to view. This is what you get on these cruise liners and it is much more catered towards an intimate setting that allows you to go at your own pace while providing all the amenities and services that you need.
Fred Olsen Cruises, Like Sailing with People you Know
In fact, it is not just the passengers that form friendships on this basis and, as a spokesman for Fred Olsen stated: "We find people age into our product, rather than us having to adapt to a new demographic. What appeals to our customers is familiarity; our officers and crew are all long-serving, and many long-term friendships - both between passengers and between passengers and crew - are forged on our ships."
The company has, however, had to alter some of its regulations on board such as smoking as this is now banned in all the indoor areas although there are outside sections where it is permitted.
In an age when cruise companies are becoming larger and larger - owing to the cheap nature of these getaways now and that more people can now afford a cruise - companies such as Fred Olsen are keeping a human face, so to speak, on the cruise business and while they are certainly not the largest cruise company in the market today many would argue that they are the most welcoming and friendliest of the lot.
If it is an intimate setting that you are after with a relaxing break and the chance to explore new places and meet new people then this liner is your best choice in a time when cruise ships are becoming larger, more corporate and much more distant to many people.
