Seabourn Cruise Line was founded in 1987 by Atle Brynestad and Warren Titus, both cruise industry giants. They desired to create a luxury six star line like no other for the ultra luxury cruise market.
Ironically, Seabourn was not the intended name. Originally, the line was to be called “Signet Cruise Line,” but it would have violated copyright laws as that name already belonged to a Texas owned ferry company. The owners of the ferry company haggled back and forth but refused to give it up so the name Seabourn was chosen.
The current fleet consists of the Odyssey, Spirit, Legend, Sojourn and the Seabourn Quest.
Seabourn are always expanding their itineraries and travel to over 350 ports in over 100 countries. There is always a destination to be explored that is untouched by other cruise lines and as their ships are smaller, they can easily manoeuvre into exotic ports that other ships cannot.
These yacht-style ships offer some of largest accommodations at sea, with suites ranging in size from 277 to 575 square feet. Nothing but comfort is anticipated with a separate living room, bedroom, marble bath with shower and tub and walk-in closet. The Seabourn Spirit and Legend can accommodate 208 passengers whilst the rest of the fleet carry 450 guests.
Dining onboard any one of the ships is always a pleasure and of an extremely high standard, something that has been recognised with a number of prestige awards. Presently, Chef Charlie Palmer oversees the menu on all ships and it is nothing short of gourmet cuisine. The line offers two different open seating restaurants and use the finest linens, china and crystal on each table.
The Veranda café offers a casual grand buffet or guests eat al fresco at the Sky Grill and bar. Those suites that contain a private veranda can be served the same menu while overlooking the sea and horizon.
Activities are based on your particular cruise and the many global locations your itinerary visits. You will enjoy an array of activities including water sports directly off the platform of the ship. The enrichment programs are given by experts and celebrities and augment your thirst for knowledge with talks by noted authors, historians, chefs, film directors, amongst others.
The spa on a Seabourn ship prioritises the guest’s wellbeing to the fullest whilst the fully equipped gym promises to put everyone in tip-top shape.
Seabourn will be going through a few changes over the next few years. It is said that two of their fleet will be departing the company.
The last voyage of Seabourn Legend will take place in May 2015 around the Mediterranean. Although no official statement has been announced, the Seabourn Spirit will be saying farewell within the same year.
Happily, there will be a brand new ship on the horizon for the line scheduled to arrive sometime in 2016. The ship will be larger than any other in Seabourn’s history and every suite will feature a private balcony. It will not be a mega ship but it promises to be as intimate as before.
Seabourn Cruises pledge their continued focus towards guests as individuals. It cannot get better than that!
