Latest from MSC – 2 New Ships and the World Cup!

Founded in 1970 as the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), this Italian company quickly became a leader in cargo transport. As their success continued, cruise holidays were added and launched in 1988. MSC Cruises is promoted as one of the world’s fastest growing cruise lines.

65% of cabins on their ships have balconies and they are known for having a varied menu of 140 different recipes served each day. Each ship contains a variety of speciality restaurants. Many cruise lines have been updating their fleet and MSC is not going to be left behind.

2 NEW SHIPS TO BE ADDED TO THE FLEET

MSC has recently confirmed they are to add 2 new ships to their fleet. The ships are being designed and built by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri and are going to be completed in November 2017 and May 2018. The ship project is called Seaside. The ships will have remarkable architecture that is sure to influence other cruise lines for years. MSC currently have 12 ships which are very popular with passengers of all nationalities.

Well worth the cost of £566 million, these ships will be huge and will hold more than 5,300 passengers each as well as a crew of 1,400. There will be more than 2000 cabins available for booking, each with its own particular charm and comfort.

Some unique features and innovations that will be found onboard the ships are a sea-level promenade with a large amount of shops, dining areas and large outdoor spaces to relax in. It will also have an enormous theatre featuring a wide variety of entertainment and some lifts designed  in a panoramic style with views of the ocean.

Good news for environmentalists: these ships will have special engines that will reduce fuel consumption by at least 25%.

MSC’S SMALLER SHIPS TO BE REFURBISHED

Ready for a massive refurbishment beginning in August 2014, four of MSC’s smaller Lirica-class ships will be pulled and placed in the Fincantieri yard. They will be undergoing a ‘renaissance’ at a cost of £162 million to lengthen their hulls and adding in the latest technology.

and of course the World Cup!

This news couldn’t have come at a better time as the company has recently made another exciting announcement. In celebration of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, additional activities will be available on-board all ships.

In the days before the games begin, there will be several special activities on all ships in the MSC fleet. The Sailaway Pool Party World Cup Edition, as it is called, will have plenty of interesting things to do. Activities include a table football tournament, a MSC World Cup Game in which several water based sports will be played to win prizes and a quiz where fans can test their knowledge of football.

Passengers will have the opportunity to make their own custom football shirts that they can wear onboard and after their cruise. There will also be betting on who will win the games, with special prizes awarded to the winners.

Most of the scheduled sailings occuring during the World Cup take place in Europe and include the Eastern and Western Mediterranean, Scandinavia and Fjords and the Baltics.

The World Cup begins on June 12th, 2014 and it is not too late to book now and be part of this great sporting occasion. Not a game will be missed and of course it comes with the added bonus of magnificent scenery and lavish surroundings!
