The Increasing Popularity of Themed Cruises

Themed cruise holidays are becoming increasingly popular for cruise passengers all over the world so just what are they and what can you expect if you choose to sail on one?

Theme cruises are created by the cruise lines on board some of their itineraries. These can be in various different forms and can cater to people of all interests and likes.

CELEBRITY CRUISES

A number of cruise lines invite celebrities and icons on board certain sailings and the person will usually take part in several activities on board. Examples of these may include talks or lectures, or performances by those in the entertainment industry. Celebrity chefs often go on board certain cruises and have cooking demonstrations where they share how to make their best dishes and let you in on all the tips of the trade.

EDUCATIONAL CRUISES

Have you ever wanted to learn a new skill or improve skills you already have? Well, what could be better than doing it at sea surrounded by experts and other like-minded people. Some of the educational cruises that are available include photography, fitness, different types of dance, crafts and cooking. It’s surely the perfect chance to learn to master a new skill!

FOOD AND WINE CRUISES

These are cruises where the focus is definitely on the food. You’ll be treated to delicious food and wine whilst visiting different ports of call and relaxing on board. This type of cruise will usually reflect the local food in the areas you are travelling to for example, on a Mediterranean cruise you will usually be indulging in wonderful Mediterranean foods and wines. Sounds perfect to us!

MUSIC CRUISES

Music cruises are very popular with cruise passengers. These might involve the theme being a certain era (80s music anyone?!), a certain band or genre. MSC Cruises are offering a progressive rock itinerary in Honduras and Mexico in April 2014 where passengers will be treated to special shows bringing back great memories from the era and creating more.

The ship, MSC Divinia, will be transformed and will have multiple stages set up where passengers can hear live music and enjoy acoustic performances and even sound and light shows.

SPECIAL INTEREST CRUISES

These cruises are where the ship has been chartered for those with a common interest. This could be anything from gay and lesbian to golf to crocheting! It’s perfect for those who may be a little hesitant to book a cruise otherwise as they know they will be on a ship surrounded by people with the same interest as them.

It’s also perfect for solo travellers as it’s a great way to break the ice with your fellow passengers and make new friends if you already have one thing in common.
