Cruising from Barcelona

With Barcelona now recognised as being the foremost cruise ship port of the Mediterranean, it is little wonder that a growing number of people are choosing to take a cruise from this city and with a number of major cruise lines including Royal Caribbean, NCL and MSC Cruises offering itineraries from here, there will always be the possibility to grab yourself a bargain.

The port itself has nine passenger terminals and connections to other major Mediterranean ports and to the Balearic Islands.

Yet it is more than the credentials of the port that sends tourists flocking here, it is the fantastic city itself. The diversity of the city means that Barcelona has much to offer to visitors both before and after their cruise.

One of the most obvious reasons to visit Barcelona is to absorb the history and culture, both of which are available in abundance. Many people choose to take cruises from Barcelona specifically for this purpose.

The Museu Picasso and MACBA Museu d'Art Contemporani are both well worth a visit. Further cultural experiences can be found at the theatre, looking at the architecture for example La Pedrera(pictured below) or enjoying the English language cinema scene. Many guided tours take place in the city and allow tourists to take full advantage of everything on offer.

La Pedrera

Like most major cities in Europe, Barcelona is a fantastic opportunity to indulge in a little retail therapy, whether this be to purchase souvenirs for loved ones or to treat yourself. Take a stroll through the beautiful streets and explore the different shopping experiences. Small boutiques, large department stores and street markets can all be found here.

Many tourists choose to sample the local food as the Mediterranean cuisine is acclaimed globally.

Barcelona provides an array of choices in terms of culinary experiences that will suit both a variety of tastes and a range of budgets, whether you are wanting a snack, an evening meal or simply a quiet drink. The choice includes fine dining restaurants, bars, street cafés and fast food restaurants and of course as with any large city international options are readily available.

Eating out in Barcelona

At night sophisticated travellers can enjoy live music cabarets, while energetic tourists may prefer the huge number of night clubs and bars that the city has to offer but remember the Spanish eat and drink late so these venues may look empty until maybe two o'clock in the morning!

Barcelona is a fantastic city and a great place to start and end a cruise. You will not be short of activities to fill your time as this fabulous location has something for everyone.

Whether you wish to explore the culture, enjoy the night-life or sample Mediterranean cuisine, a cruise from this Spanish port can meet all your holiday needs.
