2015 sees the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Marco Polo cruise ship, a classically styled liner that has never gone out of fashion and remains a firm favourite with passengers. Its wide range of amenities and entertainment are to be expanded upon even more during this year’s celebration, with extra themed nights, dinners and quizzes celebrating 1965, the year the ship was launched.
The Marco Polo started life as one of the most luxurious ships in the Soviet cruise line Leningrad’s Baltic Shipping Company. Roll forward to today, and she still retains that feel of olde time luxury as part of the Cruise & Maritime Voyages fleet.
As with all of Cruise and Maritime Voyage’s ships, Marco Polo is expertly outfitted in a beautiful traditional style. With a ‘no kids’ policy, the style matches the atmosphere – soothing!
Marco Polo’s Jade Wellness centre offers relaxing spa treatments guaranteed to induce a feeling of wellbeing and utter tranquillity. The centre also offers both hairdressing and beauty treatments – so get dressed up to the nines for that formal dinner you’ve been looking forward to, or merely to walk the promenade and take in the night sky.
There is also a top class fitness centre available for those interested in working up a sweat, complete with all the essential gym equipment plus a swimming pool and three whirlpools.
Marco Polo has a well-stocked library and passengers can join in the fun by becoming a member of the CMV Club Class: where they can get together to enjoy a game of bridge or backgammon.
A series of talks held by knowledegable visiting speakers educate passengers on a diverse range of topics. ‘An Audience With…’ is hosted on selected cruises: here, guest speakers sit and discuss their passions, interests and more with a group, taking time for questions and comments.
Creative passengers will no doubt delight in the Arts and Crafts sessions, available on all cruises over 5 nights long. With experts at hand to share their wisdom and ideas, this is the perfect way to craft a souvenir to remind you of your trip of a lifetime!

Bars and Restaurants
The elegant Waldorf Restaurant offers not only a proper, full English Breakfast, but a 5 course lunch and a formal evening dining option.
Those who feel they are less likely to stick to set dining times, however, will love the bright and airy Marco’s Restaurant, where buffet style meals are available throughout the day – meals from here can also be served al fresco style on the Pool Deck.
The beautiful Palm Garden offers panoramic views along with tasty cocktails, while the Columbus Lounge is more intimate and hosts a resident pianist.
It is exciting times for the cruise industry. Not only is the market gaining a lot of momentum especially in the run up to spring and summer when the majority of cruises take place but there is also a massive influx of people now taking cruises that would never have considered this option before.
This is partly down to the increased awareness of these holidays and also the fact that they are becoming more affordable to the average consumer and Cruise and Maritime are putting themselves right at the front of this vitalised market.
The first liner to sail under the Cruise and Maritime Voyages name is the 22,000grt Marco Polo which holds over 800 passengers (820 to be exact) and has already been receiving fantastic reviews from those who have sailed on it.
The Magellan is the newest ship to join the Cruise and Maritime fleet and it can accommodate over 1200 passengers. Both ships are being marketed as adult only vessels to some extent with the news that they will only be available to those aged 16 and over.

Cruise and Maritime achieves great customer Satisfaction
Last year 95% of the passengers who sailed with Cruise and Maritime rated their service and the overall enjoyment of their cruise holiday as either good or excellent and this is quite a feat in today’s world.
CMS will be operating all year round to provide ‘no fly’ sailings from the UK and these will operate directly from Tilbury, Hull, Newcastle, Greenock, Liverpool and Edinburgh.
The summer calender will see cruises depart to Scandinavia, the Baltic & Russia, Canary Islands and also the Mediterranean and Iceland too so there will be a wide range of variety on offer for many potential holidaymakers.
The cruise industry itself is on the up and the re-branding and marketing of CMS means that they will be putting themselves in a great position to capitalize on this growing market and expand their client base as well.
