The Fred Olsen Braemar is a contradiction on the water. With a five deck atrium and gently stepping decks at the stern, there is a comfortable mix of space that you might expect on a larger ship combined with the intimacy that Fred Olsen is known for. Hosting 929 guests, the Braemar is the perfect home away from home for holidaymakers leaving from UK ports.
With a careful eye for detail, Fred Olsen cruise lines are known for excellent customer services and a gamut of facilities to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The Braemar is no exception, with a fitness centre, café and restaurant, a state-of-of-the-art internet centre that allows you to keep in touch with the outside world while you are at sea and a fully manned reception area for any issues or comments you may have during your trip.
Alongside these facilities there is a host of different entertainment options that are open to all passengers. Included in this is the Braemar Room, an elegant meeting place with novels for passing the time and a string trio for classical contemplation.
Beside this is the library – for those who want to take a break from relaxation – the card room – for a game of bridge or even an enthusiastic round or two of Snap! – and the Morning Light Pub and Boutique are all good options. The Morning Light Pub is a traditionally styled place that could be your own local – albeit a floating version.

Bars and Restaurants
From the Neptune Lounge to the Coral Club, there are a myriad of places to chill out and enjoy the ocean views on board the Braemar. The Coral Club is a 170 seated lounge which is ideal for evening shows, including live bands and the occasional cabaret show. Afternoon tea can also be had here for a sophisticated treat, while on board bingo is always a popular event.
The Lido Bar allows guests to enjoy an al fresco meal in the sunshine – lunch or dinner – weather permitting! Otherwise, a pre or post dinner drink or a sailaway party will put the life back into your day. Alongside the Lido, the Marquee Pool Bar offers cocktails and other soft and alcoholic drinks for poolside loungers.
Finally, the Observatory Lounge, set at the stern of the ship, offers a fantastic panoramic view across the waves. Binoculars spotted around the bar allow guests to get a closer look at the surrounding scenery, while a grand piano sets the scene with a musical background.
The Braemar cruise ship has two full restaurants as well as a café offering a more relaxed style of eating. The Thistle Restaurant, as the main restaurant on board the ship, has both an a la carte dining option as well as a Gala Dinner.
The Grampian Restaurant has a slightly more formal air to it, with an intimate and elegant setting for special occasions. The Palms Café is a good deal less formal, offering buffet-style meals at all times throughout the day – ideal for those who don’t stick to set times.
When we picture a cruise liner then we conjure up the image of the massive ship that holds thousands of passengers and that has everything on board from swimming pools,to cinema’s and driving ranges etc...
Indeed, many of the modern liners are like this however there are an equal number that cater for the more personalised holiday and Fred Olsen Cruises are one of these.
For many people having countless numbers of activities on board as well as being on the same ship as thousands of other people is something that they crave however it is not for everyone and sometimes people go on a cruise holiday in order to relax in serenity and comfort.

One benefit that Fred Olsen Cruises have and something that you do not often get on some of the bigger ships is that you have a much better chance of bonding with fellow passengers especially if the size of the liner itself is quite small.
In fact, what many people have been commenting on is that, with these cruise liners, you actually forge some very strong friendships and that holiday makers often meet up time and time again on a Fred Olsen cruising holiday.
At the end of the day what do you really want from a cruise holiday? Relaxation, a place to meet new people and also the chance to see some sights that you would not normally get the chance to view. This is what you get on these cruise liners and it is much more catered towards an intimate setting that allows you to go at your own pace while providing all the amenities and services that you need.
Fred Olsen Cruises, Like Sailing with People you Know
In fact, it is not just the passengers that form friendships on this basis and, as a spokesman for Fred Olsen stated: "We find people age into our product, rather than us having to adapt to a new demographic. What appeals to our customers is familiarity; our officers and crew are all long-serving, and many long-term friendships - both between passengers and between passengers and crew - are forged on our ships."
The company has, however, had to alter some of its regulations on board such as smoking as this is now banned in all the indoor areas although there are outside sections where it is permitted.
In an age when cruise companies are becoming larger and larger - owing to the cheap nature of these getaways now and that more people can now afford a cruise - companies such as Fred Olsen are keeping a human face, so to speak, on the cruise business and while they are certainly not the largest cruise company in the market today many would argue that they are the most welcoming and friendliest of the lot.
If it is an intimate setting that you are after with a relaxing break and the chance to explore new places and meet new people then this liner is your best choice in a time when cruise ships are becoming larger, more corporate and much more distant to many people.
